The move is in response to the desecration of the Holy Quran in the West, Karrar al-Shamari, head of the center’s Quranic media office, told IQNA in an interview.

Speaking to IQNA on the sidelines of the second edition of an international Quran competition of holy shrine, he said it is aimed at telling the whole world that “the Holy Quran is ur way of life and law of life”.

Implementing Quranic activities and holding Quranic programs is important to counter such acts of sacrilege, he stated.

“That is why we had specified this week as the ‘Week of Aiding the Quran’. In this week, various programs, including the international Quran contest as well as Quranic circles and seminars, are being organized.”

He further said the recent act of Quran desecration in Stockholm, Sweden, has angered Muslims more than before because it was done with permission given by the European country’s government.

Al-Shamari noted that like Muslims elsewhere in the world, Muslims in Karbala held a rally in condemnation of the sacrilegious move.

There can be no justification for insulting the sanctities of the world Muslims, he underlined.

Elsewhere in his remarks, al-Shamari referred to the international Quran competition, dubbed the Karbala Quran Award, and said 54 qaris and memorizers from ten Arab and Muslim countries, namely Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Syria, Afghanistan, Turkey, Algeria, Lebanon and Egypt, are taking part in the contest.
