TEHRAN (IQNA) – A Russian Mufti said freedom of expression has become an instrument the West is exploiting to confront the Muslim world.

Speaking to Russia’s Channel 1 TV, Mufti Albir-khazrat Kurganov added that some Western countries try to misuse freedom for their political objectives, IRNA reported.
He also noted that countries like the US, France and Britain seek to spread Islamophobia.
Recent events in France demonstrated that the West seeks to provoke Muslims to accuse them of spreading violence, he added.
Kurganov underlined that Muslims have been harmed by terrorists more than anyone else.
“Hundreds of thousands of people in Muslims countries like Iraq and Syria have fallen victim to terrorism.”
He further criticized the publication of insulting cartoons by the French Magazine Charlie Hebdo and said that freedom of expression in the West has turned into freedom of insulting.
On January 14, the French weekly, whose Paris office was attacked by two gunmen on January 7, once again published a cartoon of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) on the cover of its new edition despite warnings that the move is provocative.
The sacrilegious move has drawn condemnation from Muslims all over the world.
