According to the Agency, a large number of intellectuals and seminary students of the city strongly condemned the burning of the Holy Quran by the US troops and asked for the immediate punishment of the perpetrators.
Head of the Ali-Almortaza (AS) Institute, Kazem Al-Jaberi, addressed the function and said that “these heinous acts show that the US government will commit any crime under the pretext of democracy”.
He further said that they [Western countries] commit such flagrant crimes in order to distract public attention from their massacres in Muslim countries.
At the end of the meeting, Najaf seminary students issued a statement on condemning Quarn urging all cultural and Quranic centers to promote Quran with more determination.
The conferees also expressed sympathy and unity with Hana al-Shalabi, a Palestinian woman who has been on hunger strike since 16 February against her detention without charge or trial by Israeli occupation authorities.
Thr conference was arranged by the Ali-Almortaza (AS) Institute and was held in Najaf’s Al-Qadir conference hall.
