IQNA – Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says the history will remember the crimes that the Israeli regime committed in killing thousands of women and children in the Gaza Strip.

Ayatollah Khamenei made the remarks during a meeting with thousands of people from Qom on Tuesday, marking the anniversary of the 1978 popular uprising in the holy city against the former US-backed Pahlavi regime.

“Even after the Zionist regime is fallen and destroyed and removed from the face of the Earth, these crimes will not be forgotten,” he told a gathering in the city of Qom.

“On that day, they will write in history books that there were a people who came to rule in this region and committed so many crimes and killed thousands of children and women within weeks but the people’s patience and the Palestinian resistance forced them to retreat.”

Brutal Israeli strikes on the besieged Gaza Strip in the past three months has claimed lives of more than 23,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children.

“We mustn’t forget the power of people to influence major events. Look at Gaza today. Two million people living in a small strip of land have confounded the US with all its show of greatness and the Zionist regime which is hanging on to the US,” he said.

The Leader emphasized that in the case of Gaza, predictions about the victory of the Palestinian resistance and the defeat of the “evil Zionist regime” are coming true.

“The Zionist regime has not achieved any of its objectives after committing nearly a hundred days of crimes. What does defeat mean? That’s what defeat means. They said we will destroy Hamas, but they failed. They said we will transfer the people of Gaza, but they failed. They said we will stop the actions of the resistance, but they failed,” Ayatollah Khamenei stated.

“The resistance is alive, fresh and ready, [while] the regime is tired, humiliated and regretful with a criminal stamp on its forehead. This is the situation that exists today. It bears a lesson.”
