The international event, known as Mohammad VI international Quran award, will kick off on September 12, the ministry said, according to Ahdath Info website.
The inauguration ceremony will be held at the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, it noted.
The contenders will compete in the categories of Quran memorization, recitation, Tarteel and Tafsir (interpretation).
Quran memorizers and reciters from Morocco as well as other countries in Africa, Arab world, Asia and Europe will take part in the competition, the ministry went on to say.
It will be the 17th edition of the international Quranic event, which is held annually on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) as part of the ministry’s efforts to promote Quran memorization, Tajweed, and Tafsir.
Morocco is a North African Arab country bordering the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea.
Islam is the predominant religion in Morocco, with some 99 percent of the population adhering to it.
