Speaking on a TV program on Friday, Hojat-ol-Islam Ali Mohammadi said foreign participants and Quran experts serving as members of panels of judges acknowledge that Iran’s Quran competitions are among the top in the world.

Noting that 33 editions of the International Holy Quran Competition of the Islamic Republic of Iran have been held so far and the 34th edition is slated to kick off later this month, the cleric highlighted participation of Quran activists from a large number of countries in the contest.

He said over 80 countries have voiced readiness to attend this year’s competition in Iran.

Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammadi further described holding Quran contests as a necessary step for promoting the Quranic culture, and said the masses are further acquainted with the Quranic culture and teachings through such Quranic programs.

By organizing Quran competitions, Iran also showcases its efforts in Quranic fields and proves to the world that the Islamic Revolution and the Islamic Establishment have been founded upon the Quran, he went on to say.

The 34th International Quran Competition of Iran will start in the capital Tehran on Wednesday, April 19.

Taking into account those accompanying the contestants and others invited, the total number of foreign guests during the Quranic events will reach 400, he added.
