TEHRAN (IQNA) – Jordan will play host to an international conference on the holy city of Jerusalem Al-Quds next month.

Slated for October 23-24, it will be held under the theme of “Al-Quds: History, Humanity and Religion, according to Qudspress website.

The Arab country’s culture ministry will organize the event in cooperation with the Doha-based International Center for Interfaith Dialogue and the International Union for Muslim Scholars.

Rasmi al-Falah, an official with the organizing committee, said more than 100 scholars, researchers, thinkers, political figures, Muslim and Christian clerics, and representatives from international organizations and civil society activists will take part in the conference.

He said 20 scholarly papers will be presented and discussed at the conference, including one about Jordan’s support for al-Quds and its role in protecting sacred Islamic and Christian sites in the city.

The historical status of al-Quds, the city’s demography, its Arab identity, its religious significance, the responsibilities of international, regional, political and human rights organizations towards the city, and the role of media in raising awareness about its developments are among the topics to be discussed at the two-day event, he went on to say.

Jordan is the custodian of the holy sites at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in al-Quds.
