Mohammad Saei Abdul Ghani al-Qamiri, who came third in the 2nd International Quran Competition for the Visually-Impaired, hoped that other countries would take Iran’s example and hold such Quranic events for the blind.

He noted that in other Quran contests, the blind are ether not invited or have to compete with other contenders, and that it is the only international Quran competition that is exclusively held for the visually-impaired.

Al-Qamiri also underlined the importance of such Quranic programs in enhancing unity among Muslims, given the presence of Quran activists from around the Muslim world.

The 34-old further referred to his learning of the Quran, saying he started memorizing the Holy Book at the age of 13.

He said a number of prominent Quran experts helped him in the process of Quran memorization.

Al-Qamiri is now an imam (prayer leader) in a mosque in Egypt and also teaches the Quran at a Quran school adjacent to the mosque.

The International Quran Competition for the Visually-Impaired was held last week in the Iranian capital of Tehran.

It was part of the 35th International Quran Competition of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which also included contests for women and seminary students.
