Women’s Section of Int’l Quran Contest Kicks Off in Tehran

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The opening ceremony of the women’s section of Iran’s 35th International Quran Competition was held in Tehran on Saturday.

 

A number of Quranic, religious and cultural officials, including Head of Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization Hojat-ol-Islam Ali Mohammadi and Secretary of the Council for Development of Quranic Culture Hojat-ol-Islam Hamid Mohammadi were present at the function, which began with recitation of verses from the Quran by prominent Iranian Qari Mehdi Adeli.

Next, Masoumeh Farzaneh, head of the women’s committee of the competition, delivered a speech in which she noted that 28 Quran memorizers from 28 countries are taking part in this year’s edition.

She added that 14 Quran experts, 9 from Iran and 5 from other countries, form the panel of judges.

Winners of the three top ranks will be awarded at the closing ceremony on Wednesday, she noted.

According to the official, three programs, including an exhibition, are planned to be held on the sidelines of the contest.  

The Era Hotel in Tehran is hosting the competition in the women’s section.

The 35th International Quran Competition of the Islamic Republic of Iran was officially launched in a ceremony on Thursday.

It has five sections, including those for men, school students and seminary students.

Nearly 370 foreign guests, including the contenders, Quran experts and members of the panels, have arrived in Iran for the Quranic event.

The number of countries attending the competition this year is 84.
