They were competing in the men’s and visually-impaired sections in the two categories of recitation and memorization of the Holy Quran.
Meanwhile, seven of the contenders in different categories were eliminated from the contest after they failed to pass the required criteria in a preliminary exam.
On the first day of the international event, three prominent Iranian Qaris recited verses from the Quran as honorary guests.
There was also a Tawasheeh (religious singing) program performed by a group from the central Iranian province of Isfahan.
The international Quran contest was officially launched in a ceremony on Thursday.
It includes competitions in five sections, including those for women, school students and seminary students.
Tehran’s Imam Khomeini (RA) Mosalla (prayer hall) is playing host to the main event.
Nearly 370 foreign guests, including the contenders, Quran experts and members of the panels, have arrived in Iran for the Quranic event.
The number of countries attending the competition this year is 84.
