All Bahrainis United against US-Israeli ‘Deal of Century’
Speaking to IQNA, Seyed Murtaza al-Sindi, a prominent member of the opposition al-Wafa Islamic Movement, said it was held in Manama because the Al Khalifa regime thinks it needs the support of the US and Israel to quash the popular uprising in the Persian Gulf country.
If the Bahraini officials felt they have the backing of the people, they would not resort to the US and Israel to save their rule, he added.
Bahrain hosted the workshop on June 25 and 26 to encourage what it calls investment in the West Bank and Gaza Strip as part of US President Donald Trump’s plan for Palestine.
The US-organized gathering was boycotted by numerous Palestinian groups and business leaders.
Al-Sindi said some Arab countries of the Persian Gulf, especially Saudi Arabia, that seek relations with Israel have made Bahrain a victim and forced it to be a forerunner in normalizing ties with the Zionist regime.
He stressed that all Bahraini people, including Shias, Sunnis, opposition and those who favor the ruling regime, have a united stance on the issue of Palestine, considering it the central and pivotal issue of the Muslim world.
That is why the deal of the century and the workshop in Manama were opposed by the people of the country, he noted.
The cleric further deplored the participation of a few Arab countries in the workshop and hoped that all Arab states would adopt a unified stance against plots hatched to undermine the cause of Palestine.
The deal of the century ploy has been fronted by US President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner.
It has been rejected by the Palestinians, who say the White House's policies have been blatantly biased in favor of Israel.
Palestinians have cut off all contacts with the Trump administration since the president broke with decades of bipartisan policy to recognize al-Quds (Jerusalem) as the capital of Israel in December 2017.
