TEHRAN (IQNA) – The closing ceremony of the third edition of Showq Tilawah (zeal for recitation) Quran contest was held at the holy shrine of Hazrat Abbas (AS) in Karbala, Iraq, Friday night.

A number of Iraqi and Iranian officials, including the Quran and Etrat deputy of Iran’s Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, Abdol Hadi Feqhizadeh, were present at the ceremony.

A number of teenage Iranian Quran reciters were among the contenders in the competition.

The Quran contest is annually held for young Qaris in Iraq with the aim of identifying Quranic talents.

Quranic activities have significantly developed in Iraq since the 2003 overthrow of former dictator Saddam Hussein.

There has been a growing trend of Quranic programs such as competitions, recitation sessions and educational programs held in the country in recent years.
