Hosted by Ahsan al-Hadith Institute, it marked the first anniversary of the Quranic figure’s death.

A number of veteran Quran masters and Quran activists took part in the program.

It included recitation of verses from the Holy Quran by prominent Qaris and speeches by former students of Master Morrovat such as Abbas Salimi, Mohammad Reza Solhju and Mohsen Badpa.

Master Morovvat died in Toronto, Canada, in October 2016 after a long battle with a severe illness.

Born in 1944 in Tehran, Morovvat started learning the Quran with masters like Mulla Mohammad Baqer Fani and went on to become an eminent Quran reciter.

He also spent some time in Cairo to learn from senior Egyptian Qaris.

He was the first Iranian and Shia Muslim winning the top title at Malaysia’s international Holy Quran competition in 1973. He was also the first to establish choral Quran recitation sessions in Iran.

He was laid to rest at Tehran’s Behesht Zahra Cemetery on October 29, 2016.
