People can see the copy in a Quran exhibition mounted near the Holy Prophet Mosque (Al-Masjid an-Nabawi), according to al-Fajr website.

Hamza Abdul Karim, an official with the expo, said the copy was made by an Afghan national named Qolam Muhiyeddin some 200 years ago.

Being one of the largest copies of the Quran, it was carried to Medina from Afghanistan by four camels at the time, he said.

He noted that it weighs more than 154 kilograms and measures 150 centimeters in length and 100 centimeters in width.

According to Abdul Karim, several other rare Quran copies, including manuscripts written on deerskin, are on show at the exhibition.

The 12 pavilions at the expo also showcase Quran translations in different languages, he added.
