The international contest started at Fatih Mosque in Istanbul on Friday.
As many as 120 Quran activists from 62 countries vie for the top prizes in the categories of memorization and recitation of the Holy Quran.
With the conclusion of the first stage, 10 Qaris qualified for the final round in recitation. Iran’s Seyed Mostafa Hosseini was among them. The others were from Tunisia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Yemen, Turkey, Malaysia, Brunei, and Pakistan.
There were also ten contenders making it to the final round in the category of memorization of the entire Quran.
Representatives of Iran (Mostafa Esfahanian), Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Libya, Lebanon, Morocco, Kenya, Kuwait and Jordan will be competing for the top prize in this category.
Winners will be announced and awarded at the closing ceremony on Wednesday.
The international competition is annually organized by Turkey’s Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet).
