Winners of different categories were announced and awarded at the closing ceremony, which was attended by high-raking officials, including Malaysia’s king.
The panel of judges announced Hamed Alizadeh from the
Islamic Republic of Iran as the top rank winner in the category of recitation. He
managed to score 89.96 out of 100.
The runner-up in this category was Hussein Tahir Shakir from Iraq while Malaysia’s representative Wan Fakh al-Razi bin Wan Muhammad came third.
The fourth and fifth rank winners in this category were from Canada and Singapore.
In memorization of the entire Quran, Quran memorizers from Senegal, Malaysia and Qatar came first to third respectively.
In the women’s section, the three top prizes went to memorizers from Nigeria, Palestine and Senegal.
A total of 91 Quran reciters and memorizers from 49 countries attended the six-day Quranic event.
Winners of the top three ranks in the two categories, both in the men’s and women’s sections, received cash prizes of 10000 to 70,000 ringgits at the ceremony.
The motto of this year’s competition was "Islamic Brotherhood Based on Unity of Islamic Ummah”.
The international Quran contest is annually organized by the Malaysia government with the aim of promoting the culture of Quran recitation and fostering the teachings of the Holy Book.
