TEHRAN (IQNA) – A copy of the Holy Quran written in Borno Arabic Script was unveiled in a ceremony in Nigeria.

According to the Iranian Cultural Center in Nigeria, the event was attended by local officials, head of the Supreme Council of Nigeria Muslims, and ambassadors of a number of Muslim countries, including the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Speakers at the ceremony underlined the importance of printing and publishing the Quran.

Borno, named after Borno State in northeastern Nigeria, is a script for writing the Quran that has been sidelined in the country in recent decades.

In the past five years, efforts have been made to revive the use of this script with the help of countries like Pakistan, Egypt, Sudan, Senegal, Morocco and Chad.
